Just as branding helps the public to identify reliable consumer products, neglect makes it easy for criminals to avoid being observed, recorded, and reported.

Signs of neglect include piles of unopened mail near an entry way, rooms that are darkened or unoccupied indefinitely, drawn blinds, notices indicating that the occupants have moved, or signs announcing that the owner is being represented by a real estate agent

On closer inspection, scars on door and window frames may reveal that prying tools have already damaged the building infrastructure.

Thieves will come back again and again if the property is unoccupied.

A presence on site will reduce the frequency and seriousness of unwanted social activities. Accept no substitute for security patrols by a licensed guard in uniform.

Vacated properties may be moved in on while the owner is away. Ensure that break and enter is always treated as a felony offence. You could lose everything if you don't.
